Helen Markos
was born November 13, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio. She moved to Michigan with her parents in 1934 when they purchased a farm on Crabb Road. After they sold the farm they moved to downtown Temperance on Lewis Avenue. She graduated from Bedford High School on May 25, 1947. Her mother died in 1949 and when her father re-married in the early 1950's and moved to North Branch, Michigan she then moved and resided with her brother Ernie at his property on Erie Road. Helen also lived in Erie, Michigan and at a number of locations in Toledo, Ohio. She worked for a number of companies over the years including: Sam's Club, Lanes People's Drug Warehouse and Heinl's Green Thumb, all in Toledo. Helen was also the co-owner of Stevenson Nursery in Temperance the last few years of her life. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Sherman Osborn Post #192 in Temperance, St. Clement's Catholic Church and Teamsters Local 20 in Toledo, where she was a union steward. Her nieces and nephews will always remember her as a fun-loving lady, kind person and their "best friend". She, along with her good friend Florence (Noonie) Russell, always made a point to make all of her nieces and nephews feel very special. They never missed attending any family function, including high school graduations, weddings, baptisms, and family reunions. She and Noonie had a knack of making people feel special. Sadly, Helen died on June 19, 1995 at the age of 62.
